Domaine Hatzimichalis winery by Annaleigh Autry

Updated: May 17, 2019

Domaine Hatzimichalis is a winery, which can be found in the Atalanti Valley of Central Greece. Dimitris Hatzimichalis bought the land for the winery in 1973. In order to better prepare the land to grow grapes, Dimitris opened a turkey breeding farm where he was able to naturally have the land plowed. The location of the Domaine Hatzimichalis is ideal for a winery because of the natural cooling air currents that are emitted from the Parnassos mountain near the winery. To this day, Dimitris still manages his winery, and his two sons, Leonidas and Panagiotis work alongside him to continue the family business. The wine from Domaine Hatzimichalis became well known throughout Greece in the early 80’s because that’s when they had their first harvest. After winning various awards, this winery has become recognized on an international scale. They are best known for their Cabarnet Sauvignon, which is a type of red wine. Each wine made at Domaine Hatzimichalis pairs well with a diverse array of foods. A taster of their wine said that their Alfega Erythros 2010 pairs well with red meat and yellow cheese. Other wines pair with food ranging from white sauce pasta to Indian and Thai food. When touring the winery, not only will visitors encounter a beautiful scenery, they will also experience the culture of wine through an array of small exhibitions that are devoted to the history of their wine and how it has been produced on their land for many years. Domaine Hatzimichalis prides itself on being able to share the culture of their wine with its visitors.
