Study Tour in Foods and Nutrition
Course Description
This course will prepare students from diverse backgrounds in foods and nutrition and related fields to understand the current issues/topics in nutrition in the U.S. as well as in different regions in Italy and Greece. They will gain knowledge through lectures, real-life experiences, and activities designed to help students immerse themselves in the nutrition environment of different cultures.
Course Objectives
1. Identify common agricultural and food products grown or manufactured in Italy
2. Determine common foods or staple foods across different parts of Italy
3. Understand what genetically modified organisms are and how they impact the world food supply
4. Identify the primary nutrition-related health concerns or chronic diseases faced by different parts of Italy
5. Understand how nutrient can impact or affect the health concerns in Italy
6. Discuss food insecurity across different parts of Italy
